What's in a name? What's a sherbang?

A lot of people wonder where the sherbang.com domain name came from.  What does it mean?

Unlike our company name (Gozynta), sherbang intentionally has no meaning.  I used to use a program called apg to generate relatively secure, random passwords that are pronounceable and so easier to remember.  Sherbang was one of the outputs of apg.

💡
These days for password generation I use completely random passwords and store them in a secure password manager or for the rare few that I need to actually remember I use a technique like https://xkpasswd.net/ to generate memorable passphrases.

I used sherbang as the root password for some systems that I managed for awhile.  Later I decided it would be a good username and domain name to use for myself since it's pretty unique.  I stopped using it as a password, and now it's my face to the internet.

So, what's a sherbang?

Here's a sherbang!
